Ingredients for Old Fashioned Country Apple Fritter Bread Recipe.

Ingredients:

  • Butter – You’ll need 1 stick of softened butter for this old-fashioned recipe.
  • Sugar – White sugar and light brown sugar are needed to make this awesome country apple fritter bread.
  • Eggs – Two large eggs at room temperature are needed for this delicious treat.
  • Vanilla – You’ll need pure vanilla extract for this easy recipe.
  • Buttermilk – To make a quick buttermilk, add 2 teaspoons of white vinegar to a 1/2 cup measuring cup and fill the rest of the way with milk.  Allow the buttermilk to sour for 5 minutes before using.
  • Flour – Plain, all-purpose flour is used.
  • Baking Powder – Baking powder is used to help the batter rise and create a fluffy texture.
  • Cinnamon – Ground cinnamon is used in both the batter and the sugar topping.
  • Apples – You’ll need 1 large or 2 small apples that have been peeled and diced for this easy apple fritter bread recipe. Feel free to use any apples you have on hand!
  • Milk – To make the sweet glaze, you’ll need 2 tablespoons of whole milk that has been warmed in the microwave for 10 seconds.
  • Powdered Sugar –  Powdered sugar is used to make the delicious warm glaze that is drizzled over the cooled bread.

Tools:

  • Loaf Pan – I love using my Gold Touch Loaf Pan for all my breads including this Iced Lemon Loaf Recipe.
  • Parchment Paper – Using parchment paper makes baking and clean-up a breeze. To easily line your loaf pan, crumple the parchment into a ball and run under water until it’s damp. Squeeze out any excess water and carefully open the parchment paper.  This makes the parchment paper easier to mold and fit into the loaf pan.

How to Make Old Fashioned Country Apple Fritter Bread Recipe

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and place a rack in the middle of the oven. Line a 9 x5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper or spray non-stick spray and set it aside.

In a medium-sized bowl using a wooden spoon, combine 1/2 cup butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and buttermilk. You can also use an electric mixer if you prefer.

To the butter mixture, add the dry ingredients of flour, baking powder, and cinnamon and stir well.

To the bowl, fold in the peeled and chopped apples. Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan and spread the batter evenly.

Make the Cinnamon Mixture

In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon.  Sprinkle the mixture over the top of the bread batter.  Using a butter knife or chopstick, swirl the brown sugar mixture into the batter to create a cinnamon swirl apple fritter bread.

Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, testing the center of the loaf with a toothpick to ensure it comes out clean. If necessary, cover the loaf with foil around the 45-minute mark to prevent over-browning.

Allow the apple fritter loaf to cool on a wire rack in the pan for 20 minutes before removing from the pan.

Make the Apple Fritter Glaze

In a small mixing bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of milk that has been warmed in the microwave for 10 seconds with powdered sugar to create a glaze.

You want the thickness of the glaze to not be too thin or too thick.  You want to be able to take a spoon and easily drizzle it over the top of the bread. Alternatively, you can cover the entire warm loaf with the glaze if you prefer.

Allow the glaze to sit for 10 minutes to harden before serving.
