The Players for Cast Iron Skillet Peach Cobbler
Ingredients:
- Peaches – You’ll need about 3-4 small fresh peaches to get 2 cups of peaches If you’re using larger peaches, you’ll probably only need about 2-3. Make sure you’re using ripe peaches!
- Sugar – Plain white sugar is what you’ll need for both the peach mixture and the cobbler topping. If your peaches are super sweet, you can always decrease the amount of sugar or omit from the peach mixture completely.
- Flour – White all-purpose flour is used in both the cobbler topping and the peach mixture. Using flour in the peach mixture helps to thicken the natural juices released during baking, thus creating a thick peach filling.
- Butter – Using butter in this simple peach cobbler not only adds rich flavor but also helps create a delicious buttery crust.
- Baking Powder – Incorporating baking powder into your cast iron skillet peach cobbler recipe is a fantastic way to achieve a light and fluffy biscuit topping.
- Salt – Adding salt enhances the overall flavor profile of this classic peach cobbler.
- Milk – Using fresh milk (whole, 2%, or skim) will create a moist and rich topping.
- Vanilla – Adding vanilla extract brings warmth and sweetness to our peach cobbler.
- Cinnamon – Sprinkling in a bit of ground cinnamon adds additional warmth.
Tools:
- Cast Iron Skillet – You’ll need a 12-inch cast iron skillet. Alternatively, you can use a 10-inch cast iron skillet if that’s what you have! Your cobbler will be slightly thicker (not a bad thing lol!), but you’ll need to cook it for a few minutes longer. If you don’t have a cast iron skillet, you can use an oven-safe skillet.
How to make Cast Iron Skillet Peach Cobbler
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Rinse, peel, and slice your peaches. Set aside.
In a large bowl, combine sliced peaches with sugar and flour and set aside. If your peaches are super sweet, you can decrease the amount of sugar in your peach mixture or omit the sugar completely.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the cobbler batter ingredients and set aside.
Place your skillet over medium heat and melt butter. Pour the cobbler batter over the melted butter with the stove still on medium heat. Carefully pour your peach mixture over the top of the batter and arrange the peach slices so that they’re evenly distributed.
Place the warm skillet into the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes. Allow the cast iron skillet peach cobbler to rest for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
Using Frozen or Canned Peaches
While I love using summer sweet peaches, you can also use frozen or canned peaches in this recipe!
For frozen peaches, thaw your peaches before adding in your flour and sugar for the peach mixture. You might need to add a tablespoon or two more of flour due to the liquid that is released from the frozen peaches.
To use canned peaches, use 2 cans (15 ounces) of peaches without draining the juices. Pour the canned peaches with juices over the batter in the skillet and bake as directed.
Storage Instructions for Cast Iron Skillet Peach Cobbler
