Ingredients for Soft & Chewy Monster Cookies with M&Ms.

Ingredients:

  • Butter – Room temperature butter helps create a soft, chewy cookie texture and creams easily with the sugar.
  • Brown Sugar – Adds moisture and a rich caramel flavor that keeps the cookies soft. I use light brown sugar but you can also dark brown sugar if you prefer a richer flavor.
  • Sugar – Plain white sugar is what you’ll need to make these delicious monster cookies.
  • Egg – You’ll need one large egg to give the cookies structure.
  • Vanilla – Adds warm flavor and enhances the sweetness of the cookie dough.
  • Flour – Plain all-purpose flour is all you’ll need to make this thick cookie.
  • Baking Soda – Helps the cookies rise slightly and keeps them soft in the center.
  • Salt – Just a pinch of salt helps bring all of the flavors together.
  • Peanut Butter – Natural peanut butter is what I always have on hand, but creamy peanut butter or chunky peanut butter can also be used.
  • Oats – Using old-fashioned oats creates chewy monster cookies.
  • Chocolate Chips – For these chewy monster cookie recipe, I’ll be using semi-sweet chocolate chips.  But feel free to swap them out for white chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips or even butterscotch chips!
  • Chocolate Candies – Colorful M&M chocolate candies that give these cookies their classic monster cookie look and extra crunch.

Tools:

  • Baking Sheets – large baking sheet lined with parchment paper works best for baking the cookies evenly.
  • Cooling Racks – Using cooling racks help the cookies to cool properly so they stay soft and chewy without getting soggy.

How to Make Monster Cookies with M&M’s

Preheat your oven to 375°F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper so the cookies bake evenly and lift off easily after baking.

Cream the Butter and Sugars

In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Mix until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, then mix again until fully combined.

Mix the Dry Ingredients

In the same bowl, add the flour, baking soda, and salt. These dry ingredients help give the cookies structure and the perfect chewy texture. Stir until everything is well incorporated into the dough.

Add the Peanut Butter and Mix-Ins

Stir in the peanut butter until smooth. Then fold in the rolled oats, chocolate chips, and M&M candies until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Scoop the Cookie Dough & Bake

Use tablespoons of dough to form cookie dough balls and place them on the prepared cookie sheet, leaving a little space between each cookie so they have room to spread while baking.

Use 2-3 tablespoons of cookie dough and place them on your prepared baking sheet. I also like to add a few M&M’s to the tops before baking.

Bake the cookies for 10–11 minutes, or until the edges are light golden brown and the centers are set.

Kevin McCallister’s Christmas Eve Cookies

These Monster Cookies with M&M’s were inspired by a fun Home Alone Movie Night I planned for my family. While watching the movie, I noticed Kevin McCallister leaving a plate of cookies out for Santa on Christmas Eve.

That moment sparked the idea to bake a batch of colorful M&M cookies for our movie night. Instead of ice cream, I wanted a dessert that felt a little more cozy and filling, and cookies were the perfect choice.

A Cookie for Every Season

Even though these cookies were inspired by a Christmas Family Movie Night, they’re perfect any time of year.

You can easily switch the candy colors to match different holidays or celebrations. Use pastel M&M’s for Easter, red and blue for the 4th of July, or leftover Halloween candy for a fun fall version.

Since most of the ingredients are pantry staples, these cookies are easy to whip up whenever you’re craving something sweet.
