The Players for BBQ Bacon Beans

Ingredients:
- Pork and Beans – To make these easy baked beans, you’ll need 4 large canned beans that have been drained of the liquid. These mild, tomato sauce-based beans provide the perfect base for this dish.
- Barbecue Sauce – Choose your favorite store-bought BBQ sauce or use your own homemade tangy barbecue sauce!
- Brown Sugar – Brown sugar (dark or light!) brings a deep, molasses-like sweetness that balances out the tangy and smoky flavors to these bbq baked beans.
- Maple Syrup – Using maple syrup enhances the natural sweetness in these best baked beans!
- Vinegar – A splash of vinegar (apple cider or white) adds acidity and brightness, cutting through the sweetness and balancing the overall flavor.
- Worcestershire Sauce – The addition of Worcestershire sauce deepens the flavor with its unique blend of savory, tangy, and slightly sweet notes.
- Mustard – A squeeze of yellow mustard adds a tangy kick that enhances the overall flavor of the BBQ beans. Alternatively, you can use dry mustard if you don’t have yellow mustard on hand!
- Liquid Smoke – Just a quick pour of liquid smoke infuses the beans with that signature slow-smoked barbecue taste, no smoker required. Remember, a little goes a long way!
- Seasonings – You’ll need garlic powder, onion powder, paprika and ground black pepper for additional seasonings.
- Bacon – You’ll need 5-6 slices of uncooked bacon that have been cut into small pieces for this easy bacon baked bean recipe.
Tools:
- Casserole Dish – For this easy BBQ baked beans recipe, you’ll need a large baking dish. You can also use a large cast iron skillet if you prefer!
How to make BBQ Bacon Beans
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and spray a 13″x9″ baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
Drain off the top layer of the tomato liquid from the canned beans and pour the drained beans into your prepared baking dish.

To the beans, add the BBQ sauce, dark brown sugar, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar. Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, liquid smoke, and seasonings to the baking dish and mix well.

Cut your bacon slices into small bite-sized pieces and sprinkle the bacon pieces evenly over the top of the beans.

Bake the BBQ bacon beans for 50 minutes, uncovered.
When the beans are done, turn the oven to the ‘Broil’ setting and broil for 5 minutes to get the bacon nice and crispy.

You might have some bacon grease that has gathered on the top. You can use paper towels to soak up some of that bacon fat or do what I do and allow that yumminess to soak into the beans. The choice is yours, my friend! Enjoy!

Make Ahead, Storage, and Reheating Instructions
To make ahead, prepare the beans as written up until the baking part. Cover the beans with aluminum foil and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. When it’s time to cook, pull the beans out of the fridge and allow them to sit on the counter for 30 minutes before placing them in the oven. Bake as directed.
To store cooked beans, place into an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Reheating Instructions:
- Microwave: Heat individual portions in a microwave-safe dish in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until hot.
- Oven: Place beans in a baking dish, cover with foil, and reheat at 350°F for 15-20 minutes or until heated through.
- Stovetop: Heat in a saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until warmed through.
