The Players for Sprinkle Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:
- Butter – Softened butter is the foundation of these buttery sprinkle sugar cookies, giving them a rich flavor and soft texture.
- Sugar – Plain white sugar adds sweetness and helps create tender cookies with soft centers.
- Eggs – You will need two room temperature eggs to make this perfect sugar cookie recipe.
- Vanilla – A full tablespoon of vanilla extract adds warm flavor to these chewy sugar cookies. If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, add a splash of almond extract to the dough.
- Flour – All-purpose flour provides the structure needed for thick, soft cookies that hold their shape while baking.
- Cornstarch – Adding a small amount of cornstarch creates bakery-style, chewy cookies.
- Baking Powder – Baking powder helps the cookies rise slightly and bake up thick and fluffy.
- Salt – Just a pinch of salt is all that is needed to bring the flavors together for this easy recipe.
- Sprinkles – Rainbow sprinkles are the star of this recipe, adding a colorful coating to every cookie. For the best results, use the tiny round kind of sprinkles (non-pareils) rather than traditional jimmies for these sprinkle cookies.
Tools:
- Cookie Sheet – A large baking sheet provides plenty of room for the cookies to spread evenly while baking. I love using the Williams Sonoma Goldtouch Pans to bake all of my favorite cookies on.
- Parchment Paper – Lining the baking sheet with parchment paper helps prevent sticking, promotes even baking, and makes cleanup quick and easy.

How to Make Sprinkle Sugar Cookies
Make the Dough
In a medium bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. You can also use a hand mixer on medium speed or in a large bowl of a stand mixer using the paddle attachment if you prefer.

Add the eggs and vanilla extract and mix until fully combined.

To the wet ingredients, add the dry ingredients of flour, corn starch, baking powder, and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Shape the Cookies
Using approximately 2-3 tablespoons of dough, roll the dough into 12 equal balls. Alternatively, you can use a large cookie scoop to portion the dough.

Place the dough ball in the nonpareil sprinkles and give it a roll around.

Place the sprinkled cookie dough balls onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and chill the cookie dough for 30 minutes. I like thick cookies, but if you prefer more flat, spread-out cookies, gently flatten the tops with your hand before chilling them.
Bake the Sprinkle Sugar Cookies
Preheat the oven to 350°F. and bake the chilled cookies for 12 to 13 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown, although it is a little hard to see the edges with all of the sprinkles lol.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Storage and Freezing Instructions for Sprinkle Sugar Cookies
To Store:
Store the cooled sprinkle sugar cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
To Freeze Baked Cookies:
Allow the cookies to cool completely before placing them onto a wire rack to flash freeze in the freezer for about 1 hour.
Move the frozen cookies into a freezer-safe container or zip-top freezer bag. Separate layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Freeze for up to 3 months.
To Freeze Cookie Dough:
After rolling the dough balls in the sprinkles, place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and flash freeze until firm, about 1 hour. Transfer the frozen dough balls to a freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months.
When ready to bake, place the frozen dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake as directed, adding 1 to 2 additional minutes to the baking time if needed.
