My easy creamy chicken dinner is seriously, one of my family’s favorite meals. My husband coined the name, “Creamy Chicken Goodness” nearly 15 years ago because I threw a bunch of stuff together and had no idea what to call it. While it doesn’t photograph pretty, I promise what it lacks in looks, makes up for on the taste buds.
You could even meal prep this slow cooker cream cheese chicken ahead of time, by placing everything in a bowl (or even the inner crock!) and keeping it in the fridge. When it’s time to cook, take it out of the oven and place it into the base of your crockpot, and start it. This is a great way to save time on those mornings.
This easy creamy crockpot Italian chicken uses simple ingredients is sure to become one of your new favorite recipes!

The Players for 5-Ingredient Slow Cooker Creamy Chicken
Ingredients:
- Chicken – I use fresh boneless skinless chicken breasts, but feel free to use boneless skinless chicken thighs if you’d like.
- Cream of Mushroom – One can of cream of mushroom soup is used, but you can also substitute for a can of cream of chicken soup.
- Cream Cheese – To make a creamy sauce, you’ll need one block of cream cheese.
- Italian Dressing – You’ll need one Italian seasoning packet for this easy crockpot chicken recipe.
- Sour Cream – Adding some sour cream, will bring even more creaminess to our tender chicken.
Tools:
- Slow Cooker – You’ll need a Crock Pot to make this easy slow cooker chicken recipe. Alternatively, you can also use the ‘Slow Cook’ function on your Instant Pot if you have that.
- Liners – While not necessary, using these disposable slow cooker liners for your crock pot comes in handy for those with arthritis or tendinitis. They’re also great for when you know you’ll have a long, tiring day. Knowing that clean-up is minimal at the end of the night is extremely nice.
How to make this 5-Ingredient Slow Cooker Creamy Chicken Recipe
Place chicken breasts in the bottom of the slow cooker. I’m using 4 fresh chicken breasts and I’m also using a crockpot liner for easy cleanup!
Next, add in the cream of mushroom soup, a block of cream cheese, an Italian dressing mix packet, and sour cream. Cook on low for 6-8 hours if using fresh chicken breasts. Cook on low for 10 hours if using frozen chicken breasts.
Shred the chicken in the slow cooker and mix well into the sauce. Take care if you’re using a liner, that you don’t accidentally cut open the liner with your fork.
Serve the shredded chicken over rice, pasta, or mashed potatoes. Enjoy!
Optional Ingredients for Creamy Crockpot Chicken
Occasionally, I will add in fresh mushrooms to this easy chicken recipe. About 30 minutes before the chicken is almost done cooking, I will throw in some sauteed mushrooms.
I place two tablespoons of butter or olive oil in a skillet over low heat and add in 8-ounces of sliced bella mushrooms. I season the mushrooms with a little bit of thyme, salt and black pepper and let them saute for about 5 minutes.
I will add the sauteed mushrooms to the crock pot and stir it in and allow the chicken to cook the remaining 30 minutes. The addition of fresh mushrooms and herbs really brings some freshness and earthiness to this meal.
Slow Cooker Creamy Italian Chicken for a Crowd
You could easily make this slow cooker creamy chicken dinner into a meal for a crowd! Add a couple more breasts, another can of cream of mushroom (or cream of chicken! Use what you like or have on hand!) and add another package of egg noodles to your water, and boom, dinner for 12!

Hi Alicia,
I haven’t written anything in a while but I wanted to let you know that I made this recipe about 2 weeks ago……..and my family LOVED IT!!!! It was Delicious. Even my 14 year old grandaughter told me “Grandma, this is GOOOOD” The fact that it was so easy and made the house smell great, was a bonus for sure. Thank you so very much for turning everyone on to this. The ingredients are inexpensive and stuff you have on hand anyway so it’s a total non hassle, no fuss dinner.
I’m going to be indisposed for a bit pretty soon, Im having knee surgery, so the troops aka hubby, son and g-daughter will have to fend for themselves for a short while. The kids have lived with us
since she was 2, so I got her stirring spaghetti right off the bat and she can totally make her own meals And doesnt hate it!!
Anyway, I hope everything on your end is exellent and you are looking forward to spring.
take care (my nails are way too long and I need a fill like yesterday… hence the mistakes)
-Warm wishes
Joanne
