  • Shallot – Using shallots in this recipe gives a more delicate, sweet flavor to our delicious sauce. You can also use an onion or onion powder if you’d like.
  • Garlic – You’ll need 4 cloves of garlic for this recipe or you can use garlic powder,
  • Flour – To make our sauce thick and creamy, we’ll need a little bit of white flour to create a roux.

  • Heavy Cream – To make our Cajun creamy sauce, you’ll need some heavy cream.
  • Parmesan Cheese – Adding Parmesan cheese will give a nice saltiness and cheesiness to our sauce.

How to make Creamy Cajun Shrimp Sauce Recipe

In a large skillet over low heat, melt butter or warm up olive oil if using. To the melted butter, add your diced shallots and saute for 2 minutes.  Add in your minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds, taking care not to burn fresh garlic if using.

To your shallots and garlic, sprinkle in your flour and cook the flour for 2 minutes. Add in your vegetable broth and whisk well, breaking up any lumps that may have formed from the flour.  Whisk until smooth.

Add in your tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and all of the seasonings, and allow the mixture to come up to a simmer for 5 minutes.

To your Cajun sauce, pour in the heavy cream and your grated Parmesan cheese.  Allow the mixture to come back up to a simmer, and once it begins simmering, add in your uncooked shrimp, stirring occasionally.  Note: I found a Cajun cheese at my local ALDI, so subbed that for Parmesan and it was delicious!

The shrimp should take only 5-6 minutes to cook completely.  Serve on top of penne pasta or rice and top with additional hot sauce and chopped green onions.

Homemade Cajun Seasoning Recipe

  • 1/2 tsp Oregano
