The LEGOLAND Castle Hotel located in Carlsbad, California, is one of the most quaint and perfectly themed kid-oriented hotels ever!

The LEGOLAND Castle Hotel

LEGOLAND California, located in beautiful Carlsbad, California was on our family travel list for years now!

Originally, our family was supposed to go in October 2020. And then, “you-know-what” happened, so we pushed it to the following year. 2021 comes, hotel arrangements were made, park reservations were confirmed, and 5 days before we were scheduled to leave, we all got hit hard with sickness.

Fast-forward to 2022, I, very hesitantly, re-booked our LEGOLAND California trip. And guess what? We made it lol! Did I fool you? No? Probably not since you clicked on this blog post to read all about LEGOLAND California. Smart girl (insert Jurassic Park man about to be attacked by a dino)

This blog post is based off of our personal experience with the LEGOLAND Castle Resort. I don’t know a lot about LEGOLAND in general, but hopefully I’ll be able to share our experiences with you, in hopes it will help you plan your upcoming trip.

Checking into the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel

If you’re wanting to stay right at the entrance to the LEGOLAND California Park, I would absolutely look into staying at either LEGOLAND California Hotel or the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel. Because this is a personal trip report, I’ll be talking only of the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel.

My family of 5 booked a one night stay at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel, in a ‘Knights & Dragons’ Deluxe Room. There are three themed rooms you can choose from including, “Royal Princess” and “Magic Wizard”.

Check-in was an absolute breeze! Three days before our check-in date to the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel, I received an email to check-in online to skip the line when we arrived. If you do this, you can drop your luggage off at the resort and go straight to the LEGOLAND theme park! You’ll receive a text when your room is ready, which is generally after 3pm (I received a, “your room is ready” text at 2:51pm). Once you’re back at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel, go find one of the self-service kiosks to print out your key cards to gain access to your room. Super easy!

If you want to watch how the kiosks work and see a full room tour, check out my LEGOLAND Castle Hotel Room Tour video on YouTube!

Our Knights & Dragons Room at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel was on the second floor, room number 0257. Not too far from the elevators and in a smaller corridor where not much foot traffic is. It was the perfect location!

One of the perks about staying at any of the LEGOLAND California Resort hotels (aside from location and convenience to the theme park of course!), is that there’s a separate sleeping area for the kids. And you bet your behind, that we put all three of our kids in that room that night lol!

Since our daughter is only 2, we requested a pack n’ play for her, cause there was no way she would stay put on the provided pull out trundle bed, but loved that we had that option.

The bathroom itself was very large and came with a stepping stool for the smaller kids to stand on for handwashing or brushing teeth. Yay to no toothpaste spit on the counter haha!

The main sleeping area has a very cozy and calming ambient feeling to it. I loved the light-up detailing on the wall in the headboard area, such a cute touch!

In your room, there’s a Keurig with several k-cups for your use, a small mini-fridge to hold water and milk, a safe, and a large red LEGO brick that holds a ton of loose LEGO’S for your kids to play with while in the room.

The LEGOLAND Castle Hotel Treasure Hunt

One of the best parts of this room, is definitely the treasure hunt that is included with your stay. When you get your, “Welcome to Legoland” text the morning of your check-n at 11:00 am, you’ll be given a link to the treasure hunt. When you click that link, you’ll see a menu titled, “Guest Information Hub”. Click the drop down menu and find, “Treasure Hunt”.

Then, start treasure hunting! Just to note, you will have to explore the grounds of the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel to get your answers. Don’t worry, this only takes about 10-15 minutes total, but it is so worth it. To get your correct code to open the treasure chest, you fill out the form that is provided to your online, and that form will let you know if the code you put in is correct. If so, the website will tell you, “Great Job!” and you’re to use that correct code to unlock the treasure chest inside of your room.

The Nightly ‘Knightly’ Entertainment

When you check-in for your stay at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel, you will be given a list and times of the shows, meet and greets, and other entertainment that is going on during your stay. Below was the list we were given, however, times and shows might change during your stay.

LEGOLAND Castle Hotel Entertainment Courtyard

Another major perk to staying at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel, is the absolutely amazing outdoor playground area and movie area. I’m not sure why there’s not much information on the LEGOLAND California Website regarding this fantastic area, but it’s so fun!

There are several playground for kids of all ages, including a ‘DUPLO Tot Spot’ for littles under the age of 4 to play.

The outdoor cinema area has plenty of couches and chairs to sit down and watch one of the movies that comes on every day!

You could even take some food and drinks and sit at the provided picnic tables to enjoy and watch a movie from!

Dragon’s Den Restaurant at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel

Included with your stay at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel, you get a free full breakfast buffet that includes pancakes, waffles, fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage, egg casseroles, breakfast potatoes, juices, coffee and more!

Breakfast at the Dragon’s Den Restaurant and Bar is open daily from 7am to 10:30am. Although breakfast is complimentary for guests staying at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel, they do ask that you make breakfast reservations through the Open Table website or through the LEGOLAND Dining Website Link.

Kids Can Go Free to the LEGOLAND California Resort

Did you know that kids can go to LEGOLAND California Resort for free during the month of October?! All you have to do is purchase an adult ticket park hopper ticket to get your child in for free! How cool is that. Check out the details for more information. And there’s so many more activities that are free to do while visiting the San Diego area during the month of October, so definitely check this website out for more!
