A Goofy Movie is a great way to kick off summer vacation, since the movie begins on the last day of school for Max Goof, Goofy’s junior-high school son who’s ready to do absolutely nothing but view the popular upcoming Powerline Concert. But Goofy, voiced by Bill Farmer, has other plans: to make the most of summer and spend more time with his son. This is one of our favorite Disney movies to watch, and actually, I’ve been watching this since the film’s release in 1995.
If you aren’t familiar with this Walt Disney feature animation, here’s a quick walk-through of this heartwarming animated film. The movie follows Goofy and his teenage son Max. Goofy, in an attempt to rekindle the father-son bond of years past, plans a family summer vacation road trip which becomes the catalyst of their misadventures. Max begrudgingly hits the open road with his dad but soon realizes that his dad’s attempts at having fun are becoming more embarrassing.
This presumably will interfere with his main goal in life to fit in with his peers. He’s also wanting to impress his crush Roxanne, one of the main characters of this film, which he just so happened to tell that he was going to be on stage live at the concert. Will Goofy get the summer plans he’s been working towards and hit his final fishing destination at Lake Destiny? Or will Max be able to convince Goofy to take him to Los Angeles?
Disney Themed Family Movie Nights
Disney-themed movie nights are so much fun to do and they don’t need to involve a lot of work either. Pick a Disney movie, decorate a little bit (or not!), and build up a menu around the movie. My very first Disney family movie night was a few years back and we watched the movie, Lilo & Stitch. The dollar store is always stocked up on Hawaiian-themed products during the summer, so that was the perfect time to have a Disney movie night. I’m really wanting to do more of these themed family movie nights because my kids really enjoy them. And secretly, so does my husband and me! I already have plans for another themed movie night coming up in the next month, so stay tuned!
For this A Goofy Movie Dinner Night, I actually decided to do both A Goofy Movie inspired Breakfast and Dinner. This favorite Disney movie can actually go both ways since there are both breakfast and dinner scenes. This makes it very versatile for your family movie night/day! I’ll include all of the foods I made for this day.
Decor for A Goofy Movie Dinner Night
Decorating for A Goofy Movie dinner night doesn’t have to be much if anything at all! I went to my local dollar store and picked up some balloons, streamers, a tablecloth, plates, and napkins. You could decorate in such a way that you would for a rock concert viewing party. Or even a graduation party (since Max is promoting to a higher grade!).
My initial thoughts on the colors for this movie was a little difficult, but I went with black, yellow, and purple, mimicking the colors of Powerline. But when I asked my husband for his opinion on colors, he suggested hot pink, green, and black. Kind of like ultra 90’s colors. But whatever you choose, it will look great no matter what!
Wanting to dress up? Grab some graphic shirts(my husband has A Goofy Movie shirt similar to this one) or create your own Disney-bounding outfits. Wear a red shirt and jeans to look like Max, or a teal shirt and jean shorts like Maxine!
Drink Idea for A Goofy Movie Night
If you’re looking to serve up a refreshing drink for your A Goofy Movie themed dinner, make a Powerline Punch! This was inspired by a drink my kids had at Lamp Light Lounge at Disney’s California Adventure. It consists of half Powerade Mountain Berry Blast, half Apple juice, and a drop or two of green food coloring. To make it look even more like a concert with a fog machine, you could always add dry ice. Use a clear plastic cup when serving so the kids can see the cool colors!
A Goofy Movie Breakfast
I always put on A Goofy Movie at breakfast to kick off the kid’s official first day of summer vacation. The morning after Max decides to change the map route from fishing at Lake Destiny to watching the Powerline concert in Los Angeles, Max and Goofy head to a diner for breakfast. Goofy orders a stack of pancakes and Max orders a plate of bacon and eggs. But his plate is sunny side up eggs and bacon in a smiley face. So that’s exactly what I made!
I made my oldest two eggs, bacon, and a blueberry for the nose. My two younger kids had scrambled eggs instead of sunny side up. I also made some Ultimate Fluffy Homemade Pancakes that my kids love so much. Because it was a special occasion, I decided to make these pancakes into ‘surprise’ pancakes. Meaning, I sprinkled in a small handful of chocolate chips with the pancakes were frying up.

Appetizers
If you’re familiar with A Goofy Movie, then you probably have a good idea of what to serve as an appetizer. In A Goofy Movie, one of Max’s best friends Bobby, played by Pauly Shore, eats a tower of spray cheese and crackers he refers to as the “leaning tower of cheeza”.
I honestly can’t remember ever eating a can of spray cheese in my younger years. But my mom did mention to me that she had purchased it a time or two when I was little. I had actually found a couple of cans at Walmart and I had some Ritz crackers already at home.
While this didn’t win my kids over tremendously well, it was something new and fun! I definitely recommend giving it a try!
Main Course
In A Goofy Movie, Max and Goofy get stuck in the car while camping due to big foot sleeping on top of their car. With tummy’s beginning to rumble, they found one can of Alphabet soup, Max’s favorite when he was a little boy. This soup is a must for your A Goofy Movie Dinner Night!
I found my alphabet pasta at Walmart, but if you’re not able to find any at your local grocery store, you can always get Alphabet Pasta from Amazon. I decided to make my own tomato soup and throw in the alphabet pasta about 10 minutes before the soup was done. It was delicious! However, a faster way would be to purchase store-bought tomato soup, cook your pasta separately, and then add your pasta to bowls of the tomato soup. Super easy!

Of course, you can’t have tomato soup without a good grilled cheese sandwich. I purchased some thick slices of sourdough bread, grated some sharp cheddar and mozzarella cheese, and buttered the bread before frying in a cast-iron skillet.
I also decided to add in some type of fish, since this movie is based around a fishing trip after all! The Perfect Cast Fish Sticks made a great pairing to the alphabet soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Air-frying fish sticks are definitely the way to go, since it only takes about 8-9 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. I paired it with some lemon slices and tartar sauce.
Dessert
In A Goofy Movie, Goofy takes Max to Lester’s Possum Park, since it’s on the way to Lake Destiny. While there is no actual food shown being served at Lester’s Possum Park, we can only assume that if they did have a food vendor, they would serve up Lester’s Possum Pie.
Possum Pie is traditionally made of a shortbread pie crust with nuts, a cream cheese layer, homemade chocolate pudding, and whipped cream. But for the sake of this being a family dinner night, I don’t think my kids would have enjoyed that type of pie crust. I decided to make this pie with a graham cracker crust, a sweeter cream cheese layer, a combination of vanilla and chocolate pudding, homemade whipped cream, and chocolate chips.
Lester’s Possum Pie was a major hit for us, and something I’ll make again, even if we’re not watching A Goofy Movie!
Other things related to A Goofy Movie
If you’re looking to make a whole day dedicated to Goofy and Max, check out An Extremely Goofy Movie and Goof Troop, both streaming on Disney Plus. Headed to Walt Disney World soon? You might be able to find Max and Goofy at the Disney parks! At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you might be able to meet Max dressed as Powerline! And at Magic Kingdom during Mickey’s-Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, you might spot both Max Goof and Goofy together! You might even see them doing, “the perfect cast”.
One of the reasons I enjoy Disney movies so much, is that they include a few Easter eggs throughout their movies, and A Goofy Movie is no exception! Here are a few things to keep your eyes open for:
- Goofy’s Pals – You can spot Mickey Mouse twice in this film Once in the beginning when Max’s phone rings in his bedroom and the phone is an actual Mickey Mouse. The second time, is when they break out into the musical number, ‘Open Road”, you can see both Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse trying to hitch a ride.
- Disney Keychain – If you look very carefully at the keychain in Goofy’s car when it’s in the ignition, you can see the famous, “D” emblem, which stands for Disney.
- The Little Mermaid – Did you know that Ariel makes her debut twice in A Goofy Movie? Once when P.J. and Bobby are getting the stage ready for Max to make his appearance on stage at school to perform, “Stand Out”. You can spot Ariel perched on a cardboard cutout, in what appears to be from a past school play. The second time is when Goofy and Max check into The Neptune Inn on their road trip, you can spot Ariel as a nightlight in the background.
