The Players for Starbucks Iced Shaken Espresso Recipe
Using simple ingredients, you too, can create the perfect drink right from home!
Ingredients:
- Espresso – A double shot of espresso (or three or four haha!) is what you’ll need. If you don’t have an espresso maker, you can also use strong coffee or instant espresso if you prefer. Starbucks uses a blonde roast espresso, but use any coffee roast that you enjoy drinking.
- Ice – Regular ice cubes, crushed ice, or even coffee ice cubes will be perfect for this tasty drink!
- Simple Syrup – I’ll show you how to make the easiest simple syrup to use for this Iced Shaken Espresso drink. And the best part about this syrup is that you can use it to sweeten other drinks and recipes too, like my Homemade Starbucks Cold Brew drink.
- Milk – Starbucks Classic Iced Shaken Espresso recipe uses 2% milk but feel free to use any type of milk you’d like! Almond milk, creamy oat milk, whole milk, soy milk, vanilla oatmilk or any other type of non-dairy milk are great options.
Tools:
- Shaker – You don’t have to use a cocktail shaker if you don’t have one. I prefer to use mason jars to create that dreamy froth. Whatever you use, make sure it’s something that is secured tight so you can shake it really well.
- Espresso Machine – I mentioned you don’t need an espresso machine, but for this recipe, I”ll be using my favorite Nespresso machine. It is perfect for this recipe and other espresso recipes!
How to Make Starbucks Iced Shaken Espresso Recipe
Our first step is to make classic syrup. This is basically simple syrup made of equal parts water and sugar.
Place 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan. Allow the mixture to come to a simmer while whisking consistently. Allow the simple syrup to simmer for 5 minutes over medium-low heat. Make sure to give it a couple of whisks to ensure the sugar isn’t sticking to the sides. Allow the simple syrup to cool for 5 minutes before using.
Our next step is to make your espresso. You can pull two or three shots, it’s all based on your personal preferences and how ‘wired’ you want to be haha! For today, I’m using two shots of hot espresso and you’ll want to let it sit for just a minute or so to cool down.
If you decide to use strong coffee, measure out 3 ounces of coffee, which is equivalent to 2 shots of espresso.
Add Espresso and Shake
To a mason jar or cocktail shaker, add about 1 cup of ice and pour over your cooled espresso. Add 2 tablespoons (or more or less depending on how sweet you want your Iced Shaken Espresso) of your homemade simple syrup. Place the lid back on your mason jar and begin to shake until you see your espresso begin to froth. For best results, 10 shakes or more will give you the best froth!
To a tall glass, pour in your espresso and ice. You can add more ice if you want your iced coffee drink super cold. Top off your refreshing drink with a splash of milk (I’m using Almond milk today.)
Enjoy your at-home Starbucks Iced Shaken Espresso without needing to step foot into the coffee shops!
